Behind the Words
Elisabeth Sheffield is the author of four novels: Ire Land: A Faery Tale from Spuytin Duyvil in 2021, and Helen Keller Really Lived (2014), Fort Da: A Report (2009), and Gone (2003), all from FC2. Additionally, her work has appeared in venues such as Ploughshares, the Denver Quarterly, Pretext, 13th Moon, Gulf Coast and Gargoyle.
A National Endowment of the Arts Award for Literature Fellow in 2012, Elisabeth Sheffield has also been awarded two Fulbrights, in Kiel, Germany (1999-2000), and in Belfast, Northern Ireland (2014), and a Fiction Meets Science Writing Residency at the Hanse Institute for Advanced Study in Bremen, Germany (2016-2017). She is a professor in the Creative Writing Program at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She lives in Boulder and upstate New York with novelist Jeffrey DeShell, their two sons, two cats and a shiba inu.
